Decision Time!

So I finally made that BIG decision. You know, the one about my job. I had been praying about it.

And praying about it.

And praying about it.

I finally asked God for some sort of sign. Please just let me make the right decision. This was much harder than I anticipated. Friday afternoon, my sign came to me in the form of Mary Margaret...surprise MM had something to say:)

We were sitting at the dining room table eating lunch and out of the blue she looked at me and said, "Mommy please don't go back to work. I want you to stay home with me."

Here you go Lindsey! Here's your sign.

I called this morning and resigned. Whew!!! I have a bittersweet feeling. I really loved my job, my co-workers, my school, and my students. Though I do realize that I will always have my 2 degrees and I can always go back to teaching. So....

Here I am! Officially a stay at home mother! I cried a little bit this morning, but I stopped crying when I rocked my baby to sleep and danced around the living room with MM.

Thanks to my dear husband for supporting which ever decision. He is thankful. He likes me being a SAHM.

Just a little late...

So Laskigal gave me this award a little bit ago and I planned on passing it on.....and then I forgot. Momnesia, remember? So please let me extend my thanks to Laskigal for giving me this sweet award. Now I need to pass it on to....Kelly and Jamie (Choosing My Own). These are 2 blogs that I visit everyday and enjoy reading immensely! (Click on the names to view their fab blogs)!

I couldn't resist....

Plus it has been a slow blogging week for me:)

MM's Friday night prayers (This is just a sentence. Her prayers are very long and detailed)

Lord (Ward), please be with my Daddy. Help his fingers play video games with me tomorrow on the Nick Jr. on the computer.....

Linus and Snoopy were almost included in the prayers tonight. Can you tell who watched "The Easter Beagle" this past weekend.

*************************************************

Also big baby news...(no I'm not pregant:)

HJ officially crawled a little bit today....right off the bed onto the hard wood floors. Ok, so you can officially give me the Mother of the Year award. I am ashamed to even type this out to y'all. I have felt enormous guilt over the bump on her noggin.

I will say one thing...she is a fast one.

Wait, let me say another one.

I won't be leaving her alone on my bed again, my friends.

Randomness at its best

Mary Margaret's Thursday Night Prayers:

"Please be with Mommy and Daddy. Keep them safe and watch over them. Please be with me. Help me to mind my Mommy and not get a spanking again. Help me not act ugly. Please be with HJ. Please help her not to cry so much tomorrow....."

I almost busted out laughing several times. The giggling, well, it started with spanking. She is too much.

I guess you can tell we had a rough day today. MM does not do well when she does not get her full sleep time. She has been staying up too late this week and I'm guilty. By golly, she is getting her sleep tonight. Whew! I thought I was going to lose my sanity today. Ever have one of those days??

******************************************************

On another note I went to the eye doctor today. I have worn glasses/contacts for 18 years. Today the eye doctor (not my normal one) drove me crazy. Wait, did I mention that I was little bit on edge today. Here were the words uttered during the exam:

"Hmmm."

"Well."

"Ummm."

"Hmmm."

It went on like this for awhile.

Personality was not a strong suit for him....I'm being harsh. Today, his personality did not reflect an extroverted type. Is that better? Anyhoo, I have new contacts and I'm getting new glasses soon. I normally order from THIS website called 39dollarglasses.com. Really eye glasses are $39 (my last pair was a little more b/c I wanted the non-glare lens). I hate to spend a lot on glasses b/c #1. My eyes are constantly changing (i.e. getting worse), #2. I'm extremely hard on glasses. I fall asleep in them, sit on them or someone else (AKA MM) breaks them (accidentally, of course), etc., and #3. I don't wear them very often.

I am a big Paula Deen fan. Love to watch her on TV, love it, love it, love it. Love her recipes. I am dying to go eat in her restaurant, meet her, and become her BFF. Now, I realize that the last item on my list is probably not going to happen so I started reading her memoir and I'm really enjoying it. She has mixed in a few of her favorite recipes throughout the book. Do you watch the Food Network?? I'm watching as I type this. HA! If you do, who is your favorite chef??

Going Green

As I have mentioned before, I have been pondering the whole organic food issue for a few months now. I've started slowly..........s l o w l y. I now buy organic milk (every time) and organic veggies, if I can find them. Remember I live in small town USA with a fresh/farmers market at least 45 minutes away.

Today I found an article called "The 12 Foods to Buy Organic" from Prevention Magazine (on-line, of course). (Click on the article title if you want to check out the article yourself). The article was very informative and explained why you should buy organic for these particular items.

The magazine calls these "The Dirty Dozen"!

Here they are:
1. Beef, Pork, and Poultry
2. Milk, Cheese, and butter
3. Strawberries, Raspberries, and Cherries
4. Apples and Pears
5. Tomatoes
6. Potatoes
7. Spinach and other greens
8. Coffee
9. Peaches and Nectarines
10. Grapes
11. Celery
12. Red and Green Bell Peppers

So what do you, fellow blog friends, buy organic? Do you think it makes a difference?

P.S. I KNOW I have blogged about this before but I stay in limbo as to what I should do. I value each and every reader's opinion. I like to weigh all my options and sometimes it's like I beat a dead horse....I know, I know. I am just trying to weigh all the healthiness vs. all the extra cost of going green (especially after reading THIS article about food prices going up everywhere).

Disappointed

So Saturday I ran around like crazy loon looking for MM some white Easter shoes. I tried several places and it took forever b/c I am hop-a-long with my current foot injury. I mean, seriously it took me forever to walk from the parking lot into a store. My mom went with me to help with the girls, thankfully. So I found some shoes after a 3 hour hunt. Shoes, check.

Then I checked in (what I call) the "way-back" of my SUV.....the Easter chocolate had melted. MELTED, I was shocked. It's March, people, chocolate should not melt in the car in MARCH. Off to Wal-Mart the day before Easter. I DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT recommend going to Wal-Mart the day before ANY holiday. Don't do it, don't do it, no matter what. Anyway, I found the Reese's Chocolate eggs and chocolate bunnies. Chocolate, check.

We were all ready for the big day. I laid everything out the night before, tights, shoes, baskets, carrots (you know, for the Easter bunny), my outfit, everything was ready.

We wake up Easter morning. MM was so excited and loved all her surprises. She gave me a hug. I felt her head. Uh-oh! She was running a low grade fever. I don't know about you but when she has a fever, we don't go anywhere. I get really peeved when other parents bring their children to public places when the child is running a fever. PEEVED b/c we normally all catch that fever.

So we had the matching dresses, white Easter shoes, and a fever. No church, not for us. I was so disappointed, so very disappointed. We didn't even have an egg hunt yesterday. At least, we had the chocolate.

P.S. My sister, Abbey, surprised my Mom by coming home from Auburn on Saturday night. I knew she was coming and had to be on my toes when Mom and I were out shopping. I almost let it slip a few times. We enjoyed dinner out together Saturday night (Mexican food-yummy)! She had to go back yesterday and I miss her already!!!

Meaning of your Name

I stole this from Leigh. If you would like to know the "real" meaning of your name click HERE.

What Lindsey Means

You are relaxed, chill, and very likely to go with the flow.

You are light hearted and accepting. You don't get worked up easily.

Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing.

You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long.

You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people.

You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts.

You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals.

You are balanced, orderly, and organized. You like your ducks in a row.

You are powerful and competent, especially in the workplace.

People can see you as stubborn and headstrong. You definitely have a dominant personality.

You are the total package - suave, sexy, smart, and strong.

You have the whole world under your spell, and you can influence almost everyone you know.

You don't always resist your urges to crush the weak. Just remember, they don't have as much going for them as you do.

You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.

You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.

At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

You are a free spirit, and you resent anyone who tries to fence you in.

You are unpredictable, adventurous, and always a little surprising.

You may miss out by not settling down, but you're too busy having fun to care.

5 on Friday

1. I love seeing the world through the eyes of a 4 year old. MM is so dramatic, animated, snuggly, independent (most of the time a good thing), and loving. We have hidden Easter eggs in our house more times that I could count and it is still not getting old. Plus her Daddy was off work today and he played "video" games with her. You know, computer games from the Noggin website. Thank you for letting me talk about her ALL. THE. TIME.

2. The girls have precious baby blue matching smocked bishop dresses to wear on Sunday and they are oh-so-cute! I still don't have Easter shoes for MM (I know, LAST MINUTE). I'm going to look tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed.

3. I went to the doctor today b/c I have been having some problems with my feet, yes both of them. Well, I'm officially feeling old. I have achilles tendonitis. Pray for this to heal. I am having trouble walking, lots of pain (did I mention that I'm a wimp), lots of swelling....all this b/c I started walking/running again. So much for exercising:) I've been pushing the girls in the double jogging stroller and MM loves to go fast so I run. Needless to say, I won't be "going fast" for awhile. Let's just hope I can go and soon!

4. I'm so thankful that my Jesus died on the cross so that we may live. So thankful. So thankful. He has blessed me in countless ways. God is good ALL. THE. TIME.

5. I think my little sis is coming home for Easter tomorrow (she is going to try and surprise my mom) and I can't wait to see her. She is working two jobs, that's right, two jobs while putting herself through school. I did it and I admire her for hanging in there. It's worth the effort!

Ok, so a little sappy 5, but I'm feeling thankful on this Good Friday. Thankful for Jesus, thankful for family, thankful for friends, thankful for this blog and my bloggy friends. That's me in a nutshell today, THANKFUL!

Random thoughts

Soon we will have a crawler. Harper Jane has been getting up on all fours and rocking back and forth. She does not EVER want to sit still. Whenever someone new holds her that all say, "She is such a wiggler." Yes that's right. She is a wiggle worm. It started when she was in my tummy.

She is amazed at her big sister and smiles at MM everytime she sees her. Mary Margaret loves the extra attention. Just the other day, HJ was crying while we were going to buy groceries. MM apparently had had enough of the crying and looked over at HJ and started making faces. HJ immediately stopped the tears and started laughing. I know this won't always be the case, but I am certainly enjoying it right now. I know what it is like to have a sweet sister, but we did our share of arguing "back in the day"!

**********************************************************

Now about March Madness. I love it. I love it. I love it. There I said it. Before we were married, my dear husband had me complete a bracket. I think he did this b/c he knew I would let him watch basketball 24/7. He knows how competitive I am. I mean I'm a horrible winner and even more horrible loser. That's right friends. I need to win. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Thankyouverymuch! I'm always out for blood. So he hooked me with the bracket 7 years ago and still I'm addicted to March Madness. Or is it I just addicted to beating him? Whatever the case, I will win again this year!

WARNING: Another MM Post

Yes it is another MM post! Press the back button if you are tired of these. You have been warned:)

Today MM wanted to wear this babydoll dress with leggings. It is pink with a lamb appliqued on it with the words, "The Lord is my sherpherd." (NOTE: If you were to ask her what her shirt says, she would tell you, "The Ward is my shepherd.") Oh yes she would! It is truly a precious little comfy outfit. So I am explaining to her that Jesus is the Lamb of God.

"Well Mommy, I'll be his donkey." she responded.

So immediately I start running through all the crevices of my brain trying to figure out, why oh why would MM want to be his donkey? I failed and finally asked her. Thinking apparently is not a strong suit of mine lately.

"Why do you want to be his donkey?"

"You know like Small One."

You see, Small One was the donkey in a cartoon from Mickey's Christmas Carol DVD. Small One is the donkey that carries Mary into Bethelehem on that wonderful Christmas night. Big job with big responsibilities!

I was touched that she would respond that way.

It was funny though, wasn't it?

"I'll be his donkey."

Easter Egg Hunt Pictures

Here are some shots of MM at her friend Lilly's Annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Jesus is tired.

You may be confused by the title of this post and you should be. Well, let me explain.

This afternoon on our way to an Easter egg hunt MM was singing a praise song. I have these fabulous praise music CDs that she loves. They are called Praise Baby. Anyway, one phrase in her "right-now" favorite song says, "He is highly exalted."

Well, my dear MM, sings as loudly as she can, "He is highly exhausted."

I giggled and giggled and giggled and I know that God was giggling with me.

I do think that there is nothing as sweet as listening to a child sing about God's wonder.

This will always be a precious memory!

Tornado Mary Margaret

MM's room is a disaster. I mean to tell you it is a MESS! As I have said before, a tornado would have nothing on her. She is not the type of girl that plays with one set of toys and puts them away. Oh no ma'am! Absolutely not. We, here at the Douglas household, go big or go home. Yes we do.

Lately we have been cleaning up her room every night before bed b/c the house is for sale and needs to be hazard proof. I mean, I would hate for some unsuspecting soul to trip over one of the many Littlest Pet Shop animals or over a My Little Pony. Her room is hazardous to anyone's health.

Tonight I went into her room and said, "Ok MM, it is time to clean up your room before we go to bed."

"Oh no Mommy, I have just gotten it the way I like it."

"You like it to be messy?"

"Yes, everything is just where I want it."

"Fine, MM, we won't clean it up tonight. I'm too tired." (Tired or lazy, whichever you prefer)

"Oh Mommy, my heart just filled with love."

Who knew that a messy room = a love filled heart.

So now you know that when your husband or child leaves a mess, they are just trying to fill YOUR heart with love!

Weird logic, huh?

The Time Has Come

It came.

The dreaded call.

The dreaded call from my school.

My decision must be made. Will I return to my job next year or will I resign and stay at home? This is not an easy decision.

I love staying at home. Just this morning, it was raining and the girls and I climbed back into bed, watched a little Sesame Street, and listened to the rain. I was thinking how it couldn't get better than this. I love taking the girls on long walks, going to the library or the park, my Tuesday lunches with my mom and grandmother, etc. I love not having to rush around all the time, constantly multi-tasking, and feeling like I'm doing a mediocre job at everything (mother, teacher, wife). I love the fact that I don't have to see my children cry in morning when I drop them off at the sitter's or my Mom's. I love feeling like I am making a difference in my children's growth and development (emotionally and physically). I love that my life now seems simplified.

Now, I do love teaching and in particular, my teaching job. I love that teachable moment. I love the bond that grows between teacher and student. I love the feeling that I am making a contribution to the future. I love to see academic growth and development in each and every student. I love that problem solving...trying to find the appropriate teaching style for each learning style. I love at the end of the day feeling like I am making a difference. I love the people that I work with and treasure the friendships I've made.

I've tried to do a pros and cons list but it's really harder than you might think. The one thing that keeps coming to my mind is: Can't I go back to teaching in a few years? Certainly, I could, but I would have lost my particular position that I do truly love. (I teach gifted students 1/2 of my day and the other 1/2 is spent teaching reading to students that are struggling).

Well, the decision must be made and soon. The School Board must have my decision by the March 31st meeting. Pray for me!

Sherlock Holmes Strikes Again!

Well, those cookies I blogged about yesterday. Well, those cookies, they are G-O-N-E!!

MM started acting a little funny last night. She didn't want to eat and said her belly was hurting. She just wanted to lie on the bed and "We-Wax"! So I let her. She was oh-so-snuggly. I hated that she felt badly but I was enjoying her snuggling. Come to find out, that little stinker...ahem....girl ate every chocolate cookie. I found the evidence this morning and asked her about it. No wonder she didn't feel so good. She has no self-restraint, that one. Wonder where ever does she get it?

Tuesday, March 11, 2008

Just call me Sherlock

The chocolate cookies had been missing for at least 2 days. I couldn't find them and this I was mesmerized by, at first. Then it became a mission. Where in the world were the chocolate cookies?? I asked my dear husband, convinced that he had eaten them all.

But all to no avail. He had not seen or eaten the chocolate cookies.

The investigation went a little like this:

Sunday afternoon: cookies missing; looked all over pantry and kitchen

Sunday night: no cookies; rechecked pantry, kitchen, and this time I checked the living room

Monday all day long: no cookies; rechecked all the aforementioned places and then proceeded to check my bedroom

Monday night: still no cookies; almost given up because I had such a feeling of dispair

This morning, that's right friends, still no cookies. I was now resigned just to go buy some more.

Tuesday afternoon: cookies were found! YIPPEE!

You might just be asking yourself, where, o where, did you find the cookies??

Well, my dear bloggy friends, I found them in the most logical of places...where all chocolate loving 4 year olds hide their favorite snacks, in their closets! Never fear, there were still some left and matter of fact, I'm enjoying one now much to my 4 year old daughter's dismay. She wanted them all for herself. You see, in our family, sharing doesn't cover anything chocolate. It's every man, woman, or child, for themselves.

Not Sleeping + Trying to Sell a house with 2 young children = CRAZY MOMMY

So after you read this, don't even think about having me committed. I'm not quite there....yet. As you know, we have our house on the market. It is quite tough to keep it respectably clean especially with one child that wants to be held all day and one child that can destroy a room quickly (a tornado has nothing on her).

Also, HJ has not been sleeping very well and guess who is suffering??? I'll give you two guesses though I'm quite sure you won't need them both.

Over the past few weeks I have been catching myself doing some rather insane things. Shall I tell you? Yes, I must confess (at least you'll get a good chuckle). So here it goes:
*washed my hair with shower gel (not recommended)
*shaved the same leg twice (thank goodness it is the winter time)
*tried to give my mail to the McDonald's drive through cashier (she would not accept my bills for a Happy Meal. How dare her?!)
*threw away my check card at the gas station (so much for cleaning out my car)
*went back to aforementioned gas station and dug through the trash to find my check card
*bought groceries and tried to pay except I couldn't find my check card (this is when I had to return to the gas station)

And before you ask me?! I had not been drinking during any of these escapades although maybe that would help. I have done some crazy things before. Most of the time, it is like once a year. I guess I'm trying to beat my record. I've always been competitive like that. Please don't have me committed.

Have a great Saturday!

Oh and if you have some crazies that you have done, please share them. Make me feel a little better, please. I need it:)

Lindsey's Version of Taco Soup

I made my version of Taco Soup last week. It was actually pretty good. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients:
1 can black beans (strained)
1 can chili beans (strained)
1 can corn (strained)
1 can Rotel
1 can diced Tomatoes
3-4 Chicken Breasts
1 Taco Seasoning packet
1/2 Onion (chopped)
2-3 cups Chicken broth (you'll have this after cooking the chicken so just save it)

Boil chicken (add salt and pepper). Shred the chicken (remember to save part of your chicken broth). Add all other ingredients to broth. Bring to a boil, then turn it down to Med/Med-Low. Stir frequently while cooking for an hour (add more salt and pepper--I'm all spicy). Garnish with cheese (this is a must) and tortilla chips. This was easy, tasty, and somewhat healthy.

P.S. I also added some red pepper but I like it HOT!

Now I know why I'm such a list maker.

I've said since I gave birth to MM that my child (now children) snacked on my brain cells. Well guess what?? It now has a name, "Momnesia." Read THIS article. It's now all scientific. Whew! I feel better already....Now what was I saying?

MM's Vocabulary Words Again

So we are waiting at the Mellow Mushroom to eat. MM loves to go to restaurants (wonder where she gets this from?). She remembered eating there and starting asking me questions.

"Are you going to eat pizza?"

"Yes, darling, we are."

"Momma, I want the turndraw."

"What?"

"I want the turndraw."

"What are you saying?"

"I want the turndraw please. The TURNDRAW! Momma, I want the TURNDRAW. The TURNDRAW please!!!!!!!!"

I was all like needing a translator! Finally I figured out that she wanted the Etch a Sketch. Remember those? Yes, she named it the turndraw and she remembered that Mellow Mushroom gives these to kids to play with during the meal. Isn't that a fab idea instead of crayons and paper?

Baby Update and Home Again

HJ said "Mama" for the first time today. She said it three times!!! Yay! "Mama" was also MM's first word. What can I say? They either love their "Mama" or their "Mama" works with them on that word:)

We arrived home this afternoon to cold weather. Yuck! It was so nice in Auburn. It is hard to believe that just living just 3 hours North could make such a difference. We ate at all my two favorite places, Mellow Mushroom and Momma Goldberg's. I'm telling ya, that was all I could think about the entire week while preparing for the trip. We don't eat out a lot at home (we have very few choices). When we go somewhere, all I can think about is "Where are we going to eat?" It's sad that my life revolves around food:)

The Loveliest Village on the Plains

We are in Auburn visiting and loving it. The weather is fabulous and warm and reminds me how ready I am for spring. We are staying with M's brother and sister-in-law. My little sister is in school here and we also get to visit with her:). Ahhh. This is a little city that I love. It's where I had such fun, er, I mean gained all the knowledge to be an effective teacher. It's where I met my husband and where we fell in love. It's where my husband grew up (he had a great childhood setting).

It's amazing how the smells will take me back. I can go near campus in the spring and smell all the flowers and I am transported back to several (ok, 7) springs ago, walking (sometimes running) with my trusty backpack to my class in Haley Center hoping I've completed that assignment. That sweet smell makes me feel carefree and like the world is my oyster....then reality sets back in and I'm all changing diapers and washing clothes....though I wouldn't have it any other way.

I've got two words for ya: WAR EAGLE!
